Four Tips for Getting Kids Excited About Brushing Their Teeth

Last updated 7 months ago

Teaching your children how to properly brush their teeth is an important part of protecting their overall health. If you’re finding it tricky to get them to stick to their oral hygiene routines, you may want to consult with your pediatric dentist for strategies or tactics to make brushing more enjoyable.

1. Purchase a Fun Toothbrush
When you go to the store to buy a toothbrush, bring your child with you, and have him or her pick a style he or she will enjoy. Many companies make fun brushes featuring action figures and television characters that your kid will love brushing with each day.

2. Sing Their Favorite Song Together
Having children sing a song as they brush is a great way to make sure that they’re brushing long enough. It also offers a great distraction that makes the process go by more quickly. Try singing an easy tune like “Happy Birthday” several times or one of your son or daughter’s favorite songs for about two minutes.

3. Choose Toothpaste That Tastes Good
Kids will enjoy their brushing sessions more if they’re using toothpaste that tastes good. If your children are very young, it’s a good idea to make sure that the toothpaste doesn’t contain fluoride, just in case they swallow it.

4. Find Fun Videos About Brushing
Look up fun videos that your children can watch on a smartphone or tablet as they brush. Children will look forward to listening to characters like Scooby Doo tell them when it’s time to put the brush down and go to bed.
